Abstract

Purpose: To report a case of atypical lid abscess caused by ant-bite.
Case summary: A 54-year-old male patient was referred to our clinic due lid swelling. He complained of pain in the left eyelid area after ant-bite 4 days ago. At the initial visit, elevated abscess and ulcer with pus were observed in the left upper eyelid, and lesions of the similar aspect were observed in the lower eyelid margin of the same area. Cultures and antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed. No bacterial growth was observed on culture, and eyelid lesions improved after systemic and topical antibiotic treatment.
Conclusions: Lid abscess caused by ant-bite could be difficult to differentiate with other causes by clinical features. Therefore, rapid treatment with early diagnosis through history and detailed ocular examination is important.
